Richard W. Munchkin
2009
A professional blackjack player and backgammon expert, author, film director and producer. Co-host of the Gambling With an Edge podcast.
Richard Munchkin
Richard Munchkin has been a professional blackjack player at the highest levels since the 1970s, familiar and competent with just about every winning technique—card counting, hole card play, shuffle tracking, team play, ace location, rebate/bonus hustling—he even made a killing playing blackjack and video poker in the online casinos before the U.S. government passed laws against online casino gambling in 2006.
Munchkin was a frequent contributor to Arnold Snyder’s Blackjack Forum quarterly, more frequent than many readers were aware, as he often submitted material pseudonymously.
In his alternate life, between 1987 and 1999, Munchkin was a writer and/or director and/or producer and/or actor in low-budget action films, what used to be films made for drive-in movies, with titles like Deadly Bet, Texas Payback and Dance or Die. If you google “Richard Munchkin IMDb” you’ll find a full listing of his films in the International Movie Database.
In 2002, Munchkin’s book, Gambling Wizards: Conversations with the World’s Greatest Gamblers, was published by Huntington Press. If you have any interest at all in advantage play, you’ll love this book. Some of those who participated in the project include poker legends Doyle Brunson and Chip Reese and blackjack legend Tommy Hyland.
Munchkin now lives in Las Vegas, where he cohosts a weekly podcast, “Gambling with an Edge.”
